Cafe Terrassans It’s a shame that many tourists seldom venture outside Blanes’ tourist district. Those who do will find some excellent treasures in town, one of which is Café Terrassans — a hugely popular tapas bar.

Platja Blanes Five months after a devastating storm left a trail of destruction up and down the Costa Brava and beyond, many seaside resorts are still busy repairing the damage.

However, all beaches have sand and are ready for tourist season.

Good news for Blanes-goers: S’Abanell beach already has more sand that it had last year.

Lloret de Mar:
Georg Heile The lifeless body of a German man, who was missing for more than a week while vacationing in Lloret de Mar, has been found.

Initial reports say the man may have died accidentally by falling 15 meters down a steep slope.

Malgrat de Marcrime:
Mossos D'Esquadra A 26-year-old man from Holland fatally stabbed his girlfriend before turning the knife onto himself in Malgrat de Mar on Sunday.

Police have arrested the man, who is hospitalized in serious condition.

The two were on vacation in Catalonia.

Tossa de Mar The city council of the Costa Brava seaside resort Tossa de Mar has adopted a proposed ordinance that makes it illegal for anyone to have sex on the beach — or, for that matter, in any public place.

The ordinance also prohibits begging in the streets, prostitution, overly noisy bachelor parties, and the use of alcohol or drugs in public.

S'Abanell Blanes beach at the Costa Brava Some 40 divers have cleaned up the underwater coastline of Blanes.

Members of national and local police forces, along with divers provided by the national civil and emergency defense services cleared remains of boats sunk during last December’s devastating storm.

Costa Brava storm damage repairs The Cabinet of Spain has made nearly €7 million available for repair work to be carried out along the beaches of the Costa Brava, in the province of Girona (Catalonia).

The work is necessary to repair extensive storm damage to beaches and beachfront roads in Tossa de Mar, San Feliu de Guixols, Platja d’Aro, Sant Antoni de Calonge, Cadaqués, Port de la Selva, L’Escala and Blanes.

El Pins upgrade In a major show of committment to the health of its tourist industry, the city of Blanes is investing millions of Euros in its plans to turn its tourist district into a pedestrians-only paradise.

Parallel to the project, which will be performed in phases over the next few years, Spain’s Ministry of the Environment is upgrading the seaside Paseo de S’Abanell boulevard.
