Blanes, Summer 2009
During the past few weeks we have received a number of emails from people wondering whether Blanes remains a good vacation destination.
News about the huge December storm — which caused damage along the Costa Brava from Platja D’Aro to Blanes, and further up and down the coast — caused some to worry that they won’t find any beaches.
Reports about the impact of the worldwide financial turmoil, on top of Spain’s ongoing housing crisis, also introduce negative notes.
In addition, many have notices that the tourism trend has been for people to move on to new vacation spots — especially in Eastern Europe.
Blanes Alive and Well
As long-time Blanes lovers we can assure you that Blanes is alive and well.
There will always be an eb and flow to tourism, and this year the financial crisis will certainly be felt in Blanes as well. Keep in mind, though, that the Blanes you have come to love and enjoy over the years still has all the wonderful features that made you fall in love with this seaside resort in the first place.
So in just a few months from now you will have yet another opportunity to enjoy breakfast at Casa Oliveras. Next you’ll shop for fresh fruit at the daily fruit & vegetables market. No doubt you’ll spend some time at the terrace of Terrassans. Perhaps you’ll also catch some live music at Place d’Espana, or stroll down the boulevard toward the harbor.
As for the storm damage, Blanes has weathered storms before during its lengthy history. By the time the first tourists arrive the beaches will be back — clean, golden sand ready for a relaxing afternoon in the sun.
At night there’s plenty to do in town.
So to all who wrote: don’t worry. Book your vacation and we hope to see you in Blanes.
(P.S. Look for us at Terrassans, at DamaJuana, or at Can Tirol :)
